the 'people' problem

Recently was involved in a property transaction and faced the bureaucracy of various organizations. Not just government departments but even private entities.

While dealing with people realized a common issue:

  1. Being working in IT company I was expecting streamlined processes at each level.
  2. Was expecting reproducible evidence of previous discussion (as in mails or similar)
  3. Was expecting too much professionalism from other person.

And then I had an epiphany. Problem was less with other person, rather with my misplaced expectations:

  1. Not every department works at the same level as in IT/white-color company.
  2. Nor the people working there are paid at par with the people I usually deal with. (The pay parity sometimes was as high as 10 times).
  3. As the processes were not streamlined, the other person was working to the best of his/her efforts, many times more than what we do in our job.

But why such high expectations.
  1. We as IT / white-color job people, rarely get to deal with people in other ‘type’ of organizations.
  2. + We are the mobile-app generation. We order food, cloth, toys and even things like nail cutter online. This has further reduced the interactions with people.

So now when we deal with 'people' situations, we are impatient, angry and many times lot of air in our head.

Learning????
Stay calm, let the process flow. Yes, more interactions will be required with 'people’, but that’s normal :)

Thanku Ford, for cancelling my booking.

Yes a big thanks.
Some background. After driving my beloved Swift for years, I saw Maruti Suzuki S Cross and fell in love on first site. Amazing stance, length, ground clearance and many other factors (already lots of review on many sites) .
But there was one problem. Due to Pune traffic, I wanted to go for an Automatic transmission, and S Cross doesn’t have that.
I checked other options and finally settled on Ford Ecosport automatic. There were lots of issues actually:
  1. The fuel efficiency for Ford Ecosport is very poor,
  2. its console is dated (even that is understatement). Its designed on old feature phones, with lots and lots of buttons. Even phones today don’t have that.
  3. It’s not having a true door lock from inside. Almost all cars when locked, from inside, need two step door open process. First you shift a small lever/switch and then use the main handle to open the doors. But ecosport, even when locked from inside, the doors open with single action, and that too a simple lever/handle pull. A huge safety concern.
  4. Its back seat is small to fit 3 people comfortably.
  5. Even with spare wheel outside, the boot space is low.

But just for automatic, I made a compromise and booked. I was told I will get the car in maximum 2 months.
Now started the pain part. I waited and waited, and after around 45 days, Ford showroom folks stopped answering my calls or emails. It was so frustrating. Finally, after 2 + months I was told they are not able to “arrange the car”.
Arrange ? Excuse me!!!    Didn’t I put an order on authorised showroom, or did I asked you to steal Kohinoor or something. But ya, thats the way it was.
Finally, booking CANCELLED after wasting my 3 months and eating bank interest on booking amount.

Went back and booked S Cross, got the delivery few days back and man, am I delighted. It’s a huge upgrade over Ford Ecosport with price being almost similar. All Alloy, all disk brakes, beautiful AVN and loads of other features.

So thanku Ford  :)

why I am loving it...

recently read an article on Infoworld: Addicted to IT ...

Though I don't get restless without any major official assignment but the situation is very close...

I loved the line in the article: I think I'll spend the next few hours under that tree -- _wait for it_ .... with a laptop :)

I remember talking to my friends in the previous company. The company had a beautiful garden.. landscaping... I used to tell them that company should provide LAN ports in the garden... :)

Review: Jhoota hee sahi…

Recently saw this movie and as per my almost correct guess it was a refreshing movie. Of course the hard core fan of John Abraham who wants to see him in action thrillers will not be too happy…
Movie is having a refreshing story, with good performances by all the actors. There are many scenes which make you laugh literally.
It moves on a very predictable ending but still directory keeps the hold on the flow.
Many people are talking about main female lead not that beautiful or attractive as other Bollywood beauties. I fully agree, but then she has done full justice on acting front.
So in case you have not watched then go watch it…

About this blog…

Ok in this the first post on this blog I will like to talk about things I will be putting here. Of course everyone has an opinion but no one is ready to listen to them :) …I think blogging is a great invention for this age old issue…
One of things I will talk about will be recently watched movies (not mandatorily recent movies, as I am often quite late in watching the new releases)
And just to confess my view on movies is quite different than most of the people around. Movie should be simple be entertaining (most of times) what I mean is, there are many movies which start on a sad node, continue on a sad node and end on a depressing node. I am not strictly against them, and I also don’t mean that these movies should not be made. Of course there are people artistic enough to find a flavor in them, even there are few so called art movies that I loved but in a generic level, movie should refresh your mind.
Anyways, not just movies I will also put my thoughts on music, delicacies, any good place I have been around and even my frustrations on why the world is not perfect :) …
